How to know when your pug is in heat

One question I get asked is “How do I know when my pug is in heat?”

Dogs generally have an ovulation cycle every six months. They may bleed for a few days, or on and off spotting for a few days longer. And around day 10 from the first day of bleeding.. Or sometimes as late as day 16..

They will be fertile for a few days. It’s during this time that you’d want to have them with a male dog, if you’d like to have puppies. And Agent J and/or Father Bob are on call.

When she is coming into heat, your girl could display a change in her behaviour, as well having swelling of the vulva. It’s important to note which is the first day of bleeding, as this determines when is the best time for her to meet with her stud.

While your girl is in the fertile stage, she will show interest in the male, and enjoy the process – and then after a few days when your girl is finished mating, she will growl at the male, and show disinterest, and that’s when I come to take them home.

I am a responsible breeder, and I only support responsible breeding of pugs. I love my pugs, and I am sure you love yours. They are such a beautiful, adorable, and loving breed of dog, who deserve lots of love.
